It’s time for another interview, this time with PinkBunnie! She’s a cosplayer from Canada, who also does fashion design!

What’s your cosplay alias and why did you choose it?
My cosplay alias went through a few trials before I stuck with Pink Bunnie. It’s like trying on jeans needed one that fit! I chose Pink Bunnie because of a long theme of pink bunnies I’ve had going since I was 8 or 9.
How many years have you been cosplaying and what got you started?
I started “cosplaying” at conventions since 2004, before that I had been costuming for 4 years. I’ve always been in love with dressing up and making costumes.

What has been some of your favorite things to work with when constructing costumes and why?
Oh man, I love cosplaying because you get to work with so many different mediums and you learn so much with each new costume, such as pvc, leather, craft foam, fabric paints. It’s hard to say which I love to most as it’s like having children. I don’t want to hurt any of their feelings, but I think I would choose leather because of the diversity and challenge it gives.
What are you excited to be working with in the future and why?
I’m looking forward to several costumes I have planned out for the future, like Valkyrie Profile’s Lenneth and golden armor Wonder Woman, which will have a lot of leather pieces. Chewbacca FUR!!! Caster from Fate/Stay Night will have some fun appliqué, some simple ones will be fun as well (these are long term plans).

What are some of the traits you like to see in other costumes and who do you think does well in them?
I just like seeing what people have done to make their costumes, different techniques and mediums. I love conventions because I always learn lots from observing what other people have done. I just like originality, really, and diversity so I can’t really say who I think does well.
What is your view of the “cosplay scene”?
I think of it more as fun with a bunch of people gathering to share their similar entrusts. I do get tired of the drama, but tend to stay clear of it. But for me it is to share and meet new friends. I’ve made so many good friends through cosplay; I feel really lucky.

What are some of the things you want to see change in the scene?
I want people to be generally more friendly. I think the people that look down on others are frustrating because they forget they didn’t start out on top as “the best” (I use that term lightly), as it takes time to get good at costuming. Very FEW people have the ideal body for cosplaying or have the time to invest in getting one. Other then people getting their heads out of their poo-holes, you can’t ask for much more.
What is some advice you could give people starting to get into cosplay?
Don’t get discouraged or compare-crazy; we all start out somewhere at different levels and capabilities with different backgrounds in sewing. Enjoy what you’re doing; it’s not a competition (unless you’re in the contest), it’s a hobby.
What are some of your favorite conventions you’ve attended and why?
Sakuracon is one I haven’t missed since I starte,d but will miss this year because of school. T.T I’ve met so many people there and had a lot of good times. Fanim,e I’ve been to once and is my ULTIMATE FAVORITE and the most fun I’ve had at a convention. I got to meet and become friends with all the costumers I admired. <3 <3 <3
Give a random fact about one of your costumes that you’re proud of!
My Wonder Woman costume was made in 3 days alongside 4 other costumes. The stars were HOT GLUED on while wearing the costume the night before leaving for the convention <3 ETARU! <3 <3 <3 Another was that my Auska plugsuit was so fitted to get the right shaping as well, that I was sewn into it. I couldn’t sit but I learned from my teacher who worked on Tron that the Sirens could barely move and had different suits for each need. So it made me feel like a pro.
